Per molti anni il Kunsthaus Tacheles di Berlino Mitte (un edificio occupato solo da ateliers e pieno di fermenti e idee una officina di esperimenti) ha ospitato moltissimi artisti della scena artistica e culturale alternativa di tutto il mondo.
L'edificio dell'Oranienburger Strasse ha assunto il nome di Tacheles solo negli anni Novanta per iniziativa di un artista. Era uno dei passaggi, costruiti all'inizio del XX secolo, che conducevano dalla Friedrichstrasse alla Oranienburger Strasse.
All'inizio della seconda guerra mondiale, i nazionalsocialisti usarono l'edificio, nel periodo della RDT vi si trovava la Confederazione Sindacale Libera Tedesca. L'edificio era stato gravemente danneggiato durante la seconda guerra mondiale e, dopo la riunificazione, l'area che occupava era divenuta centrale e ambitissima, decisero quindi che dovesse essere abbattuto. Ma prima alcuni artisti occuparono il Tacheles, e così fu dato agli occupanti in autogestione come atelier di artista. L'edificio fu dichiarato monumento storico. Poi nel 2012 fu sgombrato per far posto alla speculazione edilizio e al boom immobiliare, che ha cambiato il volto e forse l'anima della città.

For many years, the Kunsthaus Tacheles in Berlin Mitte (a building occupied only by ateliers and full of ferment and ideas, an experimental workshop) has been home to many artists from the alternative art and cultural scene from all over the world.
The building on Oranienburger Strasse only took the name Tacheles in the 1990s on the initiative of an artist. It was one of the passageways, built at the beginning of the 20th century, leading from Friedrichstrasse to Oranienburger Strasse.
At the beginning of the Second World War, the National Socialists used the building. During the GDR period, the German Free Trade Union Confederation was located there. The building had been badly damaged during the Second World War and, after reunification, the area it occupied had become central and coveted, so they decided that it should be demolished. But first some artists occupied the Tacheles, and so it was given to the occupants in self-management as an artist's studio. The building was declared a historical monument. Then in 2012 it was cleared to make way for building speculation and the real estate boom, which changed the face and perhaps the soul of the city.
